Them's Expensive Pebbles

Vacation Day 6

We checked out the beach in Sand City this morning. It's not hard to tell why they gave it that name. Sand hills everywhere! The beach was quite nice although the surf is too strong to swim and it's cold too. I did some beach combing looking for sea glass for Kelsey and found quite a bit. Joe had to get on a conference call at work so he sat in the car.

We stocked up on some supplies at the local Walmart and got some things for a picnic lunch and took the 17 Mile Drive that takes you to Pebble Beach. The scenery was beautiful and we stopped frequently to take it all in. There were also some very expensive looking estates along the route. We stopped at the Pebble Beach Golf Resort for a peak. I didn't see any golf stars but then again, I would only recognize a couple. We looked through the shops and decided we couldn't afford to buy a golf ball at the prices they charged but it was fun looking. We ate at the Tap Room for a bite to eat and headed back to Monterey.

We drove back to the John Denver Memorial on the way home and found the original memorial on the beach. It was a large piece of driftwood with his name etched on it. The newer memorial was made because people were afraid the driftwood might be carried away to sea. Come to think of it, it sounds like a fitting tribute. We got back to the hotel fairly early so we're just veggin' for the evening. Big plans for tomorrow. We're going to travel to Big Sur.

We don't see many of these back in the Midwest

 The deer were tiny

This guy was about 5 feet away from our car
These grew wild along the beach

It's hard to see but there are hundreds of sea lions and seals basking on the rocks

 That's a big Cypress tree
